5000 words a day, something to aim at

"Emily Herbert is the pen name for British journalist Virginia Blackburn. Her biography of Katie Price, Katie and Peter: Too Much in Love, became a number one bestseller in the category of paperback non-fiction. Blackburn specializes in celebrity biographies; she motivates herself to write 5,000 words per day."

Gosh, 5000 words a day is impressive.

How many did Anthony Trollope manage? Once answering that question would have meant searching for my copy of his Autobiography but now the internet tells us that a page for him consisted of 250 words and he produced 40 pages a week at his best, 20 pages at his worst. If we assume he wrote 30 pages on average, he must have written roughly 1000 words a day.  His maxim was: "A small daily task, if it be really daily, will beat the labors of a spasmodic Hercules."

  1. Paul, 5000 words a day is nothing. Victor Hugo, in his pomp, was known for having a daily output of 10,000...and this with a quill! Can u imagine the wrist cramps!!!!? Stephen Thompson
