Tim Farron cannot reconcile Christian faith with being Lib Dem leader

SHARE

"To be a political leader – especially of a progressive, liberal party in 2017 – and to live as a committed Christian, to hold faithfully to the Bible’s teaching, has felt impossible for me."

Is 'Tim' Farron admitting he lied when he finally said, after avoiding an answer for weeks, that he approved of abortion and sodomy?

Where were the Liberals who leapt to defend Farron's right to hold his religious opinions and to talk about the Gladstonian tradition?

How telling that the Liberals with their strong Christian tradition (Gladstone was a devout High Church Anglican but very many Liberals were nonconformists) can no longer tolerate a leader who believes in Christian doctrine.

Note also the hounding of the DUP, even by Conservative politicians,  for disapproving of these two things.

Charles Kennedy felt no conflict between being a practising Catholic and Lib Dem leader but in Kennedy’s time people were more tolerant of unfashionable opinions and disliking abortion and homosexual acts had not become in the eyes of the left thought-crimes. Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton's running-mate, Tim Kaine, squared liberalism and Catholicism by abandoning Catholic doctrine on these two subjects.

How far we have come from Catholic and liberal John F. Kennedy - who was no conservative in matters of sexual morality. Everyone in his day assumed homosexual acts and abortion were bad things.
