Will #MeToo be the antidote to Donald Trump and save the left?

Another book about Steve Bannon and Donald Trump is out. Joshua Green, author of Devil’s Bargain, watched the Golden Globes ceremony with Mr. Bannon last month and quotes him saying,
“It’s even more powerful than populism. It’s deeper. It’s primal. It’s elemental. The long black dresses and all that - this is the Puritans! It’s anti-patriarchy. I think it's going to unfold like the Tea Party, only bigger. It's not Me Too. It's not just sexual harassment. It's an anti-patriarchy movement. Time's up on 10,000 years of recorded history. This is coming. This is real.”
Steve Bannon is a very perceptive man and might have a point, but in the short term #MeToo is aimed at Donald Trump and keeping the zeitgeist progressive. It is a very clever tactic by the Democrats to turn a scandal about someone in the heart of the Hollywood Democrat establishment and use it against Republicans.

  1. Oh yes, the women running Sweden are doing a wonderful job. Also Canada with a nominally male radical feminist at the head.

  2. Personally I think SB is wrong in his prediction; it's all about how the current 10 year old's will perceive the world around them. Millennials are somewhat a lost group since the dice is not yet cast, and the outcome of the last 100 years of 'emancipation' is not yet clear, at least in the West. Eastern Europe is different, we've had plenty of experience with floating fundamental measures of value, from prices to employment decisions, to spiritual emptiness.
There is much noise from the left here in the US, but I also feel an increased tension and resistance to this noise from the working still sane crowd.
Steve Bannon is behaving like an 'abandoned mistress'; he is hysterical and hitting in all directions, hoping one may get to reach it's target and inflict pain.
It's hard to profile Trump and it serves no purpose; one thing is clear: accusations against him are so ridiculously exaggerated, they don't stick. On the other hand, judging by his history, this is a guy who has been able to survive the NY real estate mafia; it is only common sense that it will be hard to bring him down.

  3. Do you follow this Twitter chap? (I presume he's male, just doesn't 'feel' female). Seems to be singing in the key of this blog.
