Ann Coulter believes the left has 'lost its mind'.

An interesting interview with Ann Coulter in The Guardian today. The interviewer points out that
"In June 2015, three days after Donald Trump announced his candidacy for president, Coulter appeared on an episode of the Bill Maher show. She told him that, of the 17 Republican primary candidates, Trump was the one with the best chance of winning the White House. The room erupted in laughter. She then proceeded to tell an incredulous Maher that Bernie Sanders was the only Democrat who could beat Trump."
The article ends with a quotation from the lady at a recent speech. Not one of her funnier or better lines, if you ask me, though the audience loved it.
"Trump, she says, is chemotherapy for the country. The process won’t be pleasant. “We’ll get sick, we’ll throw up, it really sucks. But the entire New York Times editorial board dies.”

The audience explodes, clapping wildly, shrieking in laughter, heads thrown back like hyenas at the site of a kill."
There are no comments by readers allowed at the end of the article because the Guardian no longer allows comments on articles that touch on immigration, race or Islam. People were posting comments that made the Guardian uncomfortable.

Of course La Coulter is right that the mainstream media are the great opponents of her brand of politics and of the sort of culture she wants to live in. She is also right that the Democrats should for their own electoral advantage change their minds and oppose illegal immigration firmly, as they always used to do. Legal and illegal immigration hit the working class Americans that the Democrat claim to fight for. Instead, Trump is making the Democrats into the antithesis of him, making them identity politics fanatics and if they let him continue to do so the Democrats will lose again.

As Steve Bannon said:
“The Democrats, the longer they talk about identity politics, I got ’em. I want them to talk about racism every day. If the left is focused on race and identity, and we go with economic nationalism, we can crush the Democrats.”
People who hate Donald Trump voted for him and will vote for him again simply to limit immigration - if he does something about building a wall, deporting illegal immigrants and changing the rules for legal immigration.

What do I think of him? I think he is in many ways quite ghastly, obviously worrying, in many ways a buffoon, but I am glad that he not any Democrat or mainstream Republican won the presidency. Ron Paul or Pat Buchanan would have been better but were not available.  And Trump is right about a number of very important things that before him got little attention.

His supporters know Donald Trump's grave defects, but he was elected to change the zeitgeist. A very hard thing to do.

I am reminded of what a Syrian told me in 2006 about Saddam Hussein.
"Saddam was a very, very bad man. But the Iraqis need to be ruled by a very bad man."
Perhaps at this juncture the Americans need to be ruled by a bad, or certainly very naughty, man.
