Pat Buchanan 3 years ago: elite's immigration, trade and foreign policies are dead letters

Pat Buchanan writing exactly three years ago, in March 2016.
Whether Trump wins or loses the nomination, the immigration, trade and foreign policies pursued by the elites since the end of the Cold War are dead letters. The nation has declared them to be so in the primaries.
A new Republican Party is taking shape. Defections are to be expected and not altogether unwelcome.
He was right and the defeat of the neo-cons by the foreign policy realists and palaeo-conservatives is a good thing, not just for the USA but for the world. Most of all for Europe. Much depends however on whether Mr Trump winds a second term.

Conrad Black (Lord Black) thinks this is almost inevitable because of the leftward shift of the Democrats. It's true that they have absolutely no idea how to deal with Mr Trump, even after three years of trying, but it all depends on the timing of the economic recession, which Mr Trump said, with characteristic honesty, was on its way in his 2016 campaign.
