Correction

I posted yesterday what two of my readers sent me and which I judged very important. It was this.

CDC this week very quietly updated the COVID-19 numbers. Only 9,210 Americans died from COVID-19 alone.

It turns out that the first sentence is perhaps slightly misleading, because the CDC figures have for a long time stated that only a small number of deaths had only Covid-19 on the death certificate. However it is true that the CDC had just put on its site this information that 9,210 Americans died from COVID-19 alone.

These sentences started on Facebook and were repeated on Twitter. President Trump retweeted the tweet that was true but slightly misleading and his retweet was removed by Twitter.

People who don't take much interest in the news (95% of the world) will just assume that Donald Trump was spreading false information, which he wasn't really, or that those in charge of things want to suppress the truth (which they don't, really).

It's impossible even for fair minded people who dislike him not to feel sorry for Donald Trump when he receives press like this in USA Today.

The removal marks the latest example of Twitter taking action to limit the reach of false information circulated by the president on the social media platform.

The company also recently removed a post retweeted by Trump that had falsely claimed the existence of a "cure" for COVID-19. Twitter moderators have also previously taken other action against Trump tweets, including targeting a post in May that the company said was glorifying violence.

The latest action comes as followers of a radicalized group of conspiracists known as QAnon have gained momentum in recent months by posting falsehoods about COVID-19 and other hot-button topics. CNN described the user whose COVID-19 tweet was retweeted by Trump as "a supporter" of QAnon.

The post about the cure for Covid that the President retweeted is of course about hydroxychloroquine, which is certainly useful but whose merits are denied by the press because Mr Trump trumpets them.

The tweet glorifying violence read
“When the looting starts, the shooting starts.”
You'll remember the man was also falsely accused about advocating that people inject themselves with bleach as a cure for Covid. Was anyone in history so lied about?

Never seen that number reported before. That's all. I don't pretend to understand what it means.

  2. Was there anyone in history so lied about? Yeah, by his supporters. To them he’s America’s savior, a straight shooter, a good Christian, and the working man’s friend who incidentally passed the biggest rich man’s tax cut in US history. Talk about lies.

Trump, meanwhile, says Joe Biden is a Marxist, “hates God“ and is backed by black-uniformed thugs in a plane who were funded by dark unnameable forced to blow up the GOP convention. Except oddly they never appeared 😉

    1. Trump's approval numbers back to the pre-virus approval high of 52%.

      It's a Rasmussen Reports survey.

Barack Hussein O and George W. Bush had less than 51% approval on the day they won reelection.

  3. According to the NYT:

The PCR test amplifies genetic matter from the virus in cycles; the fewer cycles required, the greater the amount of virus, or viral load, in the sample. The greater the viral load, the more likely the patient is to be contagious.

This number of amplification cycles needed to find the virus, called the cycle threshold, is never included in the results sent to doctors and coronavirus patients, although it could tell them how infectious the patients are.

In three sets of testing data that include cycle thresholds, compiled by officials in Massachusetts, New York and Nevada, up to 90 percent of people testing positive carried barely any virus, a review by The Times found.
