Foggy Sunday morning in the North Korean Quarter of Bucharest

My morning walk to the Hilton Garden Inn for breakfast. Comfort food, a toasted bacon and tomato sandwich, ambrosia of the gods. This is the Boulevard of the Victory of Socialism, 2 centimetres longer than the Champs Elysee, which leads to the largest building in Europe.

Romania is the Balkans dreaming that it is France. This gargantuan street is Bolshevik Romania's tribute to France, a declaration of her Latinity.

At least it is not modernist.

Much uglier things were done in Western Europe by architects possessed by Satan.

My college at Cambridge (Queens') suffered badly at their hands, as did most colleges.

And over the bridge and into the Old Town.

That building needs a full-height steel cross bracing in order to hold up. If I were you, I would choose a table by the door.

    2. They put a new coat of paint on it, removed the old roof and added three stories on top. Hence the need for braces throughout the building. A 7 on the Richter scale, will bring it down.
