The revolution that Marxists expected for so long has turned out, when it came, to be Islamist. 

What Marxism and Islamism have in common, of course, is nihilism.

Just as God sublimely says 'I am Who am', meaning He is life itself, evil is essentially destruction. Evil is a very real thing but wholly negative, death not life. 

Everything in history is at base theological. Liberalism, for example, is puritanism, even if few liberals are any longer Nonconformists and many have no religion. In the place of Christianity they now consider abortion and homosexual rights as sacred.

But they approve of these things for puritanical, not cavalier reasons.

Oliver Kamm in today's Times is a good example of what I mean. He says it's good that institutional religion has lost its importance in England because it merely offers tolerance of homosexuality. 

Lots of other commentators are saying the same thing, including some normally fairly sensible ones. 

We are reaching the point where merely thinking the sin of Sodom a sin is widely considered disgraceful, even for someone like Tim Farron who voted for single-sex marriage.

This is an example of how 'human rights' is the new religion. A new and intolerant puritanism. Although, unlike historical puritanism and Noncomformist backed Gladstonian liberalism, this neo-puritanism takes hold in the capital city and is imposed on the provinces.

Everything is theological. Culture determines economics (not vice versa) and religion determines culture. 

Scandinavians thrive because they are Lutheran atheists. South-Eastern Europe's economic and political systems will never resemble Norway because are products of the Orthodox religion.
