There is a lot of "over egging the pudding" as if Mr Putin was a lunatic out to conquer the world, like Mr Hitler (and Mr Putin is clearly NOT Mr Hitler), but the central fact that the invasion was wrong should not be overlooked. Perhaps the two writers who are attacked in the post feel they have to exaggerate the danger in order to ensure Western military aid for Ukraine - without which Ukraine would have totally collapsed. However, it is wrong to exaggerate even a just case - as exaggeration tends to discredit that case.Paul Markshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18376632035812989444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-891289711377156224.post-25437082880644706362024-03-17T17:36:38.228+02:002024-03-17T17:36:38.228+02:00What possible reason or justification does the USA...What possible reason or justification does the USA have for placing sanctions on Cuba, Syria and Venezuela?Political Refugee from the Global Villagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03523068770529814044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-891289711377156224.post-56994618189962787552024-03-17T17:35:16.727+02:002024-03-17T17:35:16.727+02:00I do not believe that Napoleon said that - it soun...I do not believe that Napoleon said that - it sounds very definitely like an American 'wisecrack'.Political Refugee from the Global Villagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03523068770529814044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-891289711377156224.post-40084922696965468672024-03-16T03:05:59.615+02:002024-03-16T03:05:59.615+02:00This was the Napoleon Bonaparte who took considera...This was the Napoleon Bonaparte who took considerable precautions against overthrow by left or right, and was never especially reluctant to enter into a war? They claim to be a leftwing outfit that won Rochdale on a surge of pro-Palestinian sentiment in the wake of Israel’s brutal assault on Gaza. But the truth is murkier. During this campaign, Galloway’s team sent out more than one set of correspondence. One, addressed to Muslims in the constituency, urged voters to “use your vote to send Keir Starmer and the Labour party a message – stop supporting genocide, stop supporting Israeli aggression, and stand with Palestine”.

His other election address, targeting a different demographic, tells another story. It trumpets Galloway’s record of backing Brexit, opposing Scottish independence and supporting family values. A whole paragraph is dedicated to outlining his opposition to transgender rights and his conviction that “God creates everything in pairs”. “I believe in law and order,” the letter reads. “There will be no grooming gangs in Rochdale. Even if I have to arrest them myself.” It ends with a deliberate nod to Donald Trump, promising to “make Rochdale great again”. Alienated white voters were a key part of Galloway’s winning coalition.

The WPB is as much about social conservatism as it is about leftwing economic policies. It promises decent housing, better-funded public services and workers’ rights. But it also promises to combat the “ridiculous intersectional ideology of radical liberals”, and to put a stop to net zero.Political Refugee from the Global Villagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03523068770529814044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-891289711377156224.post-81266292463763481352024-03-03T13:20:22.011+02:002024-03-03T13:20:22.011+02:00The Mail on Sunday also tells us 'George Gallo...The Mail on Sunday also tells us 'George Galloway's deputy is under police investigation for saying Israel 'has forfeited any right to exist'.

'Former Labour MP Chris Williamson made the comment on social media on October 17, ten days after Hamas terrorists slaughtered 1,200 Israelis.

'He told his 149,000 followers on X: 'The people of the world now know that Israel has forfeited the right to exist and that resistance to the genocidal Zionist entity is the only option.' Someone translated Aristophanes into English in verse using Gilbert as his model. Just so you know, I thought Aristophanes hilarious when I read him The Wasps and Other Plays aged 11 in translation. It was the first adult book or Penguin I bought with my pocket money and it made me laugh out loud. Children of Palestinian refugees sometimes disagree and this is not necessarily wicked of them. The French did good things for Algeria. We did in Rhodesia etc etc likewise. Perhaps the the period after 1920 was too late for colonisation to be accepted by indigenous people. Remember that the Christians who used to constitute the entire population of the Holy Land and who are descendants of Jews are also opposed to Israel. Islam is irrelevant.
