Scary article about the 'Woke Corporation' by Toby Young in today's Spectator

I don't think I read anything in my life, not even harrowing news of terrible war atrocities, that made me as sad as this article by Toby Young about 'woke' corporations. I had long wanted to write about diversity and its dangers, but let him speak for me.

Here is one paragraph from an article in which many paragraphs clamour to be quoted.
'Take the Civil Service, where internal applicants for promotion have been advised that they will be expected during the interview process to ‘demonstrate insight into the link between the moral and business case for equality and diversity and achieving organisational priorities’ and explain how they ‘actively promote diversity and equality… inside and outside the Civil Service’. That’s right, inside and outside. So merely being culturally left-wing at work (‘the moral case…for equality’) won’t be enough. You have to
demonstrate to the assessment panel how woke you are in your private life too. In this regard, the Civil Service may be following the lead of the Law Society of Ontario which now requires everyone in possession of a licence to practise law in the state to ‘abide by a statement of principles acknowledging their obligation to promote equality, diversity and inclusion’ in their personal as well as their professional lives.'
Of course, this is a disastrous and Jacobinical attack on society which should be something organic and which grows without interference from social engineers. Of course privilege and hierarchy are inevitable.

It's the Honourable Toby Young, since his father, Michael Young, was a Labour life peer who coined the word 'meritocracy', as a warning against something he wanted society not to become.
Yet again, at the risk of boring you, I quote these words of Disraeli.
"In a progressive country change is constant; and the great question is not whether you should resist change which is inevitable, but whether that change should be carried out in deference to the manners, the customs, the laws and the traditions of a people, or whether it should be carried out in deference to abstract principles, and arbitrary and general doctrines."

  1. Much of it is just cowardice, self-interest and conformity. Those who enthusiastically proclaim their allegiance to Social Justice would be equally zealous in proclaiming their allegiance to fascism, or Marxist-Leninism, or Distributism, if those were the dominant ideologies.

It's not the Woke Corporation you have to worry about, it's the Whore Corporation. And all corporations are whores.

  2. Yes. Communists in Germany became enthusiastic Nazis after 1933.
