The council in this once ultra-safe Tory stronghold Southend is incredibly now run by a Lib-Lab coalition. And do they allow patriotism? A Liberal council this week ordered a man who painted the front of his house with the St George's cross to paint over it.

It's a Britannia who looks like the cover of a 1950s pulp thriller but why not?
