A reminder: Iran has done nothing that gives Israel and the USA any justification for murdering her leaders and bombing her people, nor is any US interest served by this war.

Officials in the United States are claiming success in their campaign against Iran, stressing that Washington is in the process of crushing the government in Tehran “without mercy”.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said the US military is loosening the rules of engagement and operating with little restraint as casualties, including hundreds of civilian deaths, mount in Iran.“Iranian leaders [are] looking up and seeing only US and Israeli air power every minute of every day, until we decide it’s over, and Iran will be able to do nothing about it,” Hegseth said.

He added that US jets over Iran are “controlling the skies, picking targets” and bringing “death and destruction from the sky, all day long”.

“This was never meant to be a fair fight, and it is not a fair fight,” Hegseth said. “We are punching them while they’re down, which is exactly how it should be.”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Hegseth’s remarks represent an admission of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Iranian officials have reported many attacks by the US and Israel on civilian targets, including schools and hospitals, across the country.

I followed politics obsessively since I was six but I couldn't take any interest in or understand the Arab Israeli dispute despite reading about it dexhaustively. I very reluctantly worked out that America was the great danger to world peace, as did the MAGA crowd who brought Trump to power, but had no idea how ruthless, cruel and lawless America was.

I opposed the invasion of Iraq but the war on Iran is so much worse.

Had someone told me how Israel manipulates the USA before 7 October 2023 I'd have assumed he was an anti-Semite but everything is clear to the slowest thinker now.  

Clear too the dishonesty of centrists, conservatives and the European Commission who rightly decry the Russian invasion of Ukraine but do not criticise Israeli actions in Gaza and the US-Israeli actions now in Iran.

The West has lost all moral authority but moral authority no longer seems to matter much.

To be on the same side as the far left Spanish government that's naturalising half a million Africans to win votes goes hard but how noble of them to refuse to let the criminal American regime use their bases.
