Said in the last day

It feels like what happened at Cambridge has been a sort of Chernobyl moment for academia. It’s revealed the incompetence, corruption and stupidity of those running the system and its hard to unsee once seen. Trust in the system has been destroyed.
Nick Longrich, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bath.

Again, we have no strategy [with Iran]. We haven't had a strategy really since the Soviet Union collapsed and the state system went with it. I think what we adopted was something we called the rules-based liberal international order which was really an attempt to consolidate American political, military, economic hegemony over the world behind the façade of something that was going to spread democracy, human rights, goodness, love and truth which was all nonsense. What we did was we began a series of interventions ultimately designed to edge out and suppress anybody who could be a potential competitor.

The US announcement of further unilateral sanctions against Iran is yet another blatant act of lawlessness by the Trump administration. These unilateral sanctions are a direct breach of the UN Charter, the rules of sovereignty and non-interference, human rights law, and the prohibition of collective punishment. They are, in essence, a form of economic terrorism. A full third of the world is currently suffering under unlawful US sanctions. And the US has even unlawfully sanctioned international judges, prosecutors, UN human rights monitors, and independent human rights organizations. Countries must choose between international law and the dictates of a rogue imperial government on a global rampage. The time to unify is now. The time to stand up is now.
Craig Mokhiber, international lawyer
