With politicians I think that there is a often a scintilla of genuine ideals but I might be being naive. But it's power, and the enjoyment of playing the political game that motivate them mostly. In Romania it's mostly money.
In his latest podcast on Judge Andrew Napolitano's always excellent "Judging Freedom" podcast, Blumenthal makes the point that by attacking Russian refineries Zelensky is driving up the price of diesel in order to blackmail Trump into giving him more money.
An interesting take. But it could have the opposite effect.
The world would be better off without Trump, Putin or Zelensky in power but the former two are not going anywhere. Actually whoever Putin (it will be a man) might be worse.
A friend of mine said to me that Putin is the best leader Russia could have at the moment but I do not agree. The invasion of Ukraine was a terrible blunder, like the US attack on Iran.
Xi, despite what he does at home and did in Hong Kong, is the grown-up in the playground. He isn't part of the Epstein class.
The "Epstein Class" is first and foremost the Israeli security establishment.
