Sapphire Jubilee: H.M. Queen Elizabeth II has reigned for 65 years

SHARE

Today H.M. Queen Elizabeth II has reigned for 65 years, the longest reign in British history and longer by a few months even than the reign of King James VIII and III, better known to history as the Old Pretender.

God save the Queen!

(God save the Duke of Bavaria too, the current Pretender.)

When you look at the USA, France, Russia and most of all Romania you see how very lucky England is to be a monarchy (and one that dates back to King Edgar). Lucky to to have a fine monarch, though, despite the great influence she has over ministers, she has failed to stop a lot of dreadful things that happened in her reign, starting with abortion and divorce on demand.

I wonder whether she is in favour of Brexit, despite the advice she has received from Prime Ministers going back to Harold Macmillan. The Sun newspaper said she is. Someone who says he knows told me that the Duke of Edinburgh strongly is.

If Her Majesty lives seven more years she will outdo King Louis XIV of France (Lewis XIV to Macaulay) who reigned for 72 years (1638-1718) , longer than that of any other known European sovereign.

The first eighteen Hùng kings of Vietnam were reported to live at least over 200 years each. I wish Her Majesty such longevity in good health, though it would mean skipping three of four generations of her descendants.

Dreadful things like the complete dissolution of her country and people. Britain would be in healthier shape today if it had been a communist dictatorship for the last 65 years. How has having Elizabeth Windsor as Head of State slowed Britain's decline and degeneration as compared to say, France's?
