It's all theatre, to distract people from reality, at least on Donald Trump's part. Twitter is serious about hating him..

The media war against Donald Trump is mirrored by another media war against the very liberal Dominic Cummings in the UK, who is blamed for Brexit, but in the latter war Twitter and Facebook seem to be neutral, as far as I can see.

Twitter doesn't need to be biased as their users are, heavily. In America 77% of Twitter users describe themselves as left-of-centre or extreme left. It might be the same in the UK, and might reflect the well known fact that left-wing people usually advertise their politics and right-wing people often keep quiet about theirs.

Why this is is an interesting question. It is partly because right-wingers are thought of by the left as snobby, shallow, selfish people, motivated by narrow economic interests. And also not very bright. Right-wingers, by contrast, who are much less judgmental, just think left-wingers misguided and very annoying, not wicked.

I can't agree with that, or at least I partially disagree. Maybe it was true once, maybe it's still true in some places. Maybe it's still true in Britain. It's still true in Australia. But these days the Right in the US is just as judgmental as the Left. The level of hysteria and hate has increased dramatically on both ends of the political spectrum. In the US political hysteria has become the new normal.

I'll make a prediction that whoever wins the US election in November the other side will refuse to accept the result. Trump supporters are already psyching themselves up for this. There won't be civil war (despite the desire for that among the crazies on the alt-right) but there's likely to be violence. Possibly quite a bit of violence. Politically the US is now indistinguishable from a Third World country.

    1. It's extremely distinguushable. Violence is the norm in America, before and after the events of 1968 but the Sixties social and political changes made it much more prone to violence.

  2. "President Donald Trump’s latest Twitter attacks have many people wondering: why doesn’t Twitter simply ban him from the social network?"
Beginning of front page Daily Telegraph article. Who are these people who wonder that? Are they Daily Telegraph readers? If not they might be the journalist's friends and acquaintances. Anyway I find it surprising to hear they exist.
