From a James Forsyth article in the Spectator in April:
'Had China waited another ten years, we would have been unable to react. Our dependence would have been too great. There would have been no opportunity to get out. By moving early, they’ve given us a chance.’ One cabinet minister agrees with this analysis:
As it is we are lucky to see what is happening, but a Cold War serves little purpose now and probably didn't in the period 1947-89.‘The Chinese have very surreptitiously but delicately inserted themselves into a lot of institutions. They are almost too big to get rid of.’
Apart from any other reason, illegal immigrants are a very much bigger and more urgent problem for England, Europe and the USA than Taiwanese independence.

ReplyDeleteThe original Cold War served a definite purpose. It was very very good for the military. They got lots of funding and lots of new toys to play with. It was very good for arms manufacturers.
That may be largely why we're getting a new Cold War. It won't be good for most of us but it will be very good for Lockheed-Martin.
Joe Biden doesn't even know the population of the country he's president of:

DeleteBut it's not his uselessness and the senile glint in his eyes, but his ideals and philosophy that are the problem.
