The end of an old song - as Lord Chancellor Selkirk said when the Act of Union passed the Scottish House of Lords

 I hate this so much.

Dr. David Starkey said: "The jury system has been the foundation of English criminal justice and active citizenship for over 700 years; we can’t allow David Lammy, who is so shamefully ignorant of both history and arithmetic that he thought Henry VII succeeded Henry VIII, to undo the work of centuries."

Lucky America has the 18th century freedoms England has lost or is losing like free speech and now trial by jury.

The ancient double jeopardy rule was abolished to enable what seemed like a show trial of men who had been acquitted of the murder of a young black boy, Stephen Laurence.

England has trials in secret now.

The Terrorism Act 2006 suspended habeas corpus and gives police the power to detain suspects for up to 90 days without charge.
