Don't mess with Turkey

Turkey is the largest and most heavily armed state in the region with an army ten times bigger than the IDF.

Douglas Macgregor, whom I learn much from, has been expecting a Turkish intervention in Israel's war for years but so far it has not happened. He has also been expecting a Ukrainian defeat for years.

He compares the current situation of Syria to the 1939 fourth partition of Poland between Germany and Russia.

Netanyahu needs to defeat Iran to allow his Greater Israel project to succeed but antagonising Turkey as Israel did by striking a military airbase in Syria close to the Turkish border, that the Turks were considering using,  could lead Turkey to respond with severe military force if Turkish troops or direct assets are targeted again. 

Alastair Crooke and Chas Freeman say much the same except they say the Greater Israel project is now impractical in any case.

Clearly this incident happened to win the Likud support in the forthcoming election.

Why do Erdogan and Arab and European leaders not fly to Tehran and organise a peace? 

This should be Andy Burnham's priority.
