People in the West who haven’t seen a war or lived in a foreign culture and are accustomed to liberal values don’t understand what ethnic and religious hatred and violence looks like. They project their cosmopolitan beliefs on the side they believe reflects them most, being constantly disappointed to find out the rest of the world does not think like they do.

Caitlan Johnston writes that George W Bush has been asked for his opinion on the Hamas attack:

'Bush said pretty much what you’d expect him to say: “You’re dealing with cold-blooded killers,” “negotiating with killers is not an option,” “one side is guilty.” The same book he’s been reciting from since September 11, 2001. What I find much more interesting is, why is anyone asking the absolute worst person you could possibly ask about what should be done in response to such an attack?
