Gang rape in Paris shocks France

A terrible story of gang rape of a young white girl has shocked France and shocked me, who generally never read crime stories. The light sentences meted out to the four youths who were convicted were almost equally shocking.  I scoured the net to find out whether they were indigenous French youths or whether 'youths' was code for Arabs or Muslims. 

Only the NYT mentions that one of the men convicted has a Muslim name. I presumed the others were also Muslims and a French journalist has confirmed this to me Why is this not mentioned in the press that disingenuously talks about 'French gang culture'? This should be not only mentioned but widely discussed surely, not least by Muslims in France.
