Today King Michael of Romania is 91

SHARE
Today King Michael of Romania is 91, the last surviving Head of State and Commander-in-Chief from the Second World War. Why has Romania not restored the monarchy?

How sad dethroned kings are, their faces like worn coins. Today the king unveiled a statue to himself at a square that is being named after him at the intersection of Şoseaua Kisileff and Strada Ion Mincu, at the invitation of the Mayor of Bucharest. It is a short distance from the palace where he lived as a boy, which now houses the ING Bank. All very sad.

If the impeachments of President Basescu show anything, whatever ones view of him, surely they show the advantages of a hereditary monarch and a head of state who is, like Caesar's wife, above suspicion.

  1. When a Monarch falls a star is removed from the sky and the world becomes a darker place
