‘We Are The Resistance’

SHARE
These words are from an interesting article by Rod Dreher, who left the Catholic Church partly because of its sex scandals and joined the Orthodox.
"Ramon said that the Left has dominated education in Spain since the death of Francisco Franco in 1975, and it has taught modern Spaniards to hate their country ant its history. Said Ramon:

" The real enemies of Spain are not communists, but liberals. Liberalism is not something you can fight out front, like communism. It creeps from beneath. It creates something anti-Hispanic."
Not just the enemies of Spain but the enemies of Europe and European civilisation, Ramon.

Rod Dreher hopes that small islands of Christian civilisation can be created to withstand the barbarism of modern culture. He calls this the Benedict Option, named not after Pope Benedict XVI, who is very pessimistic about the future of Christianity in Europe, but after St Benedict, founder of the Benedictine Order.

  1. Rod Dreher hopes that small islands of Christian civilisation can be created to withstand the barbarism of modern culture.

In order to survive those small islands of Christian civilisation would have to be able to defend themselves. They would have to be able to defend themselves against the full might of the modern state.

Firstly they would need to be able to defend themselves by force, because you can rest assured that the state will use force, including military force, to crush them.

Secondly they would need to be able to defend themselves against cultural assaults, which means they would have to be capable of preventing contamination by television, movies, social media.

How exactly does Dreher imagine that these things will be possible?

This is the problem with Christianity. It's a passive religion. It's a feminised religion. When faced by a challenge Christians have one strategy - retreat followed by abject surrender. It is a very very very long time since Christians were prepared to fight (by which I mean being prepared to kill or to die) for their faith. And remember, liberalism is more than willing to shed blood to advance its ideology.
