'Mrs May will go down in history as one of the worst Prime Ministers of all time, devoid of any leadership qualities'

Leo McKinstry in The Telegraph lets Theresa May have it with no holds barred and is right to do so. I agree with all of this.
Mrs May will go down in history as one of the worst Prime Ministers of all time, devoid of any leadership qualities.

...Indeed, it is amazing that Mrs May ever rose so far. Her record at the Home Office was a hopeless one. After six years there, she passed on a legacy of rising crime, a disillusioned police and immigration out of control. As Prime Minister, she swallowed the fashionable, politically correct agenda, reflected in her support for the divisive transgender ideology in defiance of biological science and women’s right.

Just as idiotic has been her insistence on endless race and gender audits across employments, the sort of Orwellian social engineering that should have no place in Tory policy. As she surrendered to the progressive orthodoxy, she went even softer on crime, borders, welfare reform, and fiscal discipline.

....Her supporters blather about her “resilience”, but in reality this is just a form of inflexibility and lack of imagination. Even after it the unpopularity of
her Withdrawal Agreement became obvious, she stuck to her doomed strategy without developing any alternative strategy, like an embrace of a Canada plus option or genuine preparations for a no deal exit.

Because of her inarticulacy and caution, she failed to persuade her Government colleagues, instead retreating into her Downing Street bunker. ...Rather than forging a cross-party consensus, she has left a trail of wreckage in her wake.

But not as bad a PM as either Mr Cameron or Mr Blair.

However, Mrs May makes Mr Brown look not so bad.

  2. There are different kinds of bad politicians. Ones like Tony Blair, Angela Merkel or Ion Iliescu are brilliant politicians but leave a malign legacy because of malign principles. I am not sure whether Vladimir Putin belongs in this group and suspect not. Other politicians are inept and simply not up to the job, like John Major. Gordon Brown and Theresa May belong in the second category, although their principles are as malign as Tony Blair's and pretty close to his.
David Cameron is greatly to blame for not preparing a plan for Brexit. I cannot forgive him for single sex marriage or changing the rules of succession to the throne. Still he and Osborne were substantial, interesting politicians who won elections.
