We're becoming more and more prone to collective hysteria. It used to be that we only had to deal with one outbreak of collective insanity at a time. At the moment we have at least five psychic epidemics raging at once - COVID, climate change hysteria, China hysteria, Wokeism, the transgender thing.And the Russia hysteria. In the US you could add the hysteria about right-wing domestic terrorism.
ReplyDeleteAnd they're dangerous than previous psychic epidemics (such as the Satanic Ritual Abuse hysteria). Some of these psychic epidemics have the potential to destroy the global economy. Two of the current hysteria epidemics could very easily lead to nuclear war. The chances of nuclear war today are much much greater than at any stage of the Cold War.
I agree with most of this but not about China. China has demonstrated the dark shadow to free trade. But China is by no means the West's most pressing problem.

Wokeism and political correctness are as much of a threat to civilisation as communism ever was. Possibly a worse threat - the Wokeists and the PC crowd want to control our thoughts to a greater extent than the communists ever did.
And the US is aggressively imposing Wokeism and PC on other countries.
I absolutely agree with you. It's been said that Hillary dissuaded Bill from buying Osama from the Taliban because they did not let girls go to school.
