The war by experts against the rest

The thing is that obeying experts is not following the science. The scientific method is to question received opinions and to test them repeatedly against experience.

This goes for history more than any other science, if history is one (I always found that debate completely barren, like the American one about whether the Nazis were left-wing).

This is the way people like taxi drivers and barbers work, which is why they know everything.

A war is going on in the developed world between graduates (especially ones under say 40) and the non-graduates, exemplified by the taxi driver and barber class. 

It's part of the war between big cities and small towns and is essentially a battle for control by the expert class. 

Covid is about that, obviously.

So is climate change.

Immigrants and refugees are too, because the expert class favours both. 

So was Brexit. Lord Chancellor Gove's remark is misquoted often but was very true.

“I think the people of this country have had enough of experts with organisations with acronyms saying that they know what is best and getting it consistently wrong.”

So was Donald Trump. His remark after winning the Nevada caucuses in 2016 was gleefully repeat by the left-wing media with a smirk.  

"We won with highly educated. We won with poorly educated — I love the poorly educated."

The expert class is terrified by the internet, which has introduced free speech into the lives of the non-experts.

The Pope is the ardent advocate of the expert class, as are the Protestant and very many Catholic bishops, who are still very influential even though fewer and fewer believe in 'organised religion'. So are the liberals and, paradoxically, the social democrats and socialists. 

Obviously so too are Twitter, Facebook, Amazon and YouTube.

Obviously so too are the banks, the schoolmasters and mistresses and, above all, the universities.

"The Experts" over at the FDA and CDC are now regarded as infallible arbiters of knowledge. But telling people to turn of their brains and just do what they're told isn't "trusting the science," it's the beginning stages of the new-age Covidien cult.

I remember somewhere, in a dull book I skimmed called The Psychopath's Bible, the author, who said he was a psychopath, said that experts are only interested in acquiring and using power. This is largely true.
