'At its core three things now define Westernism: a rejection of the international laws and norms that the Americans themselves played so vital a role in establishing after WWII, a repudiation of diplomacy in favour of unilateralism and bullying, and a determination to maintain a primacy in world affairs that it has already effectively lost.' I agree with most of this article from New Zealand, except that I am agnostic about whether Russia is going to defeat Ukraine. I hope not.
Nobody gives a shit about the Ukrainian people if even one will be left standing.

ReplyDelete...the idea of embedding into the European Economic and Social Committee people with make-believe legitimacy—fed by money from the very governments and corporations they’re supposed to challenge as “independent NGOs”—is a perversion of what civil society means.
Which makes Romania’s 2024 election story almost comic: they managed to annul elections over a supposedly “astroturfed” candidate—largely thanks to an ecosystem of astroturfed NGOs that helped whitewash the idea of suspending democracy.
If someone truly wants to fix the DSA—though it might be simpler to scrap it entirely and replace it with mandatory open-sourced algorithms and full transparency for every act of moderation—one thing must be enforced above all: boundaries.
If you write the news, don’t flag your rivals.
If you flag content, publish your flags.
If you lobby for rules, don’t enforce them.
And if you live off government money, don’t call yourself non-governmental.
