American Catholics have raised $36,100 for a scholarship fund for the boy from Covington Catholic School, who was the target of a lot of very harsh words for allegedly smirking at an American Indian at a Pro-Life march in Washington D.C., and his brothers.
I wonder what the two bishops who condemned the boys think. One of them has still not apologised. That's the Bishop of Lexington, the Rt Revd. John Stowe, who said:
Father Dan Horan, who is an assistant professor of systematic theology and spirituality at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and writes a column for the National Catholic Reporter, has not publicly apologised for saying
Father Edward Beck, a CNN contributor, also remains critical of the boys even after viewing the videos.
Clearly the American Catholic Church is very divided and her divisions mirror those of Americans over Donald Trump. It is pretty clear which side the Pope is on.

If the bishop thinks that supporting Mr Trump is a sin he should say so outright.
“It astonishes me that any students participating in a pro-life activity on behalf of their school and their Catholic faith could be wearing apparel sporting the slogans of a president who denigrates the lives of immigrants, refugees and people from countries that he describes with indecent words and haphazardly endangers with life-threatening policies."

Just one of many reasons I find the so-called "march for life" often repulsive and futile: It's basically a gathering for many right-wing anti-abortion hardliners (not consistent ethic of life, i.e. true pro-lifers) and teens to get a free trip to goof off (at best) in DC.”
