Do you think Theresa May suffers from Asperger's syndrome, gentle reader?
When I heard her speak last night I thought her speech was like all her speeches: deadly dull and repeating what she had said before. I was not paying enough attention because setting herself up as the representative of the people against Parliament was not the best way to get MPs on her side. The papers describe it as inflammatory. Autistic is a word that is not allowed these days, except by psychiatrists as a medical diagnosis. But she is an odd person whatever the exact details of her psychology.
I don't think any psychologically healthy person could become leader of a major political party. To be a success in politics you need to have a total absence of morality, a total lack of shame, an ability to lie that is so highly developed that eventually you lie even when you don't have to. Successful politicians are invariably loathsome human beings - Churchill, Harold Wilson, Bill Clinton, LBJ, Thatcher, Blair, Malcolm Fraser, Bob Hawke, etc etc.
ReplyDeleteAnd certainly no psychologically healthy woman would want to be a politician. Theresa May seems to me to be entirely typical of female politicians.
