Talking about the war

SHARE
I just asked my IT guy what his opinion was about the war.

'I don't have one.'

'You must have one.'

'I think the Russians are the victims here. The Americans are doing what they always do which is interfering, trying to control everything.'

It's surprising to me how often Romanians I speak to blame the Americans, usually only in part, for the war.

One of my employees wonders if America wanted this war. The question had crossed my mind.

  1. Was the IT guy from the Republic of Moldova? They tend to be thoroughly influenced by Russian state propaganda.

    1. The two Moldovans I have spoken to, one ethnic Russian one Romanian, are totally on Ukraine's side.

My IT guy is a convinced atheist, which is rare here - is this relevant? Atheists are odd.

    2. Romanians love attention. If at times it means holding the opposite position (on whatever topic) from the mainstream, it's a small price to pay. I am not in Romania nowadays, but I assume public opinion opposes Russia's "special denazifying mission", right?

    3. Yes Romanians have been very warm hearted and offered places to stay to refugees, despite their issues with Ukraine before the invasion such as preventing teaching in Romanian in Romanian areas.

  2. A small minority think the Ukrainian neo Nazis are important.
