The President of Israel, Isaac Herzog's state visit to Romania concluded yesterday. It centred on a memorial service for the victims of the Iași or Jassy Pogrom, where over 13,000 Romanian Jews were murdered by Romanians.
Mr Herzog participated in a moving ceremony to rebury the recently identified remains of 22 pogrom victims at the Iași (Jassy) Jewish Cemetery, he toured the Iași Holocaust Museum and unveiled a dedicated plaque to solidify the preservation of history.In his speech to the Romanian Parliament, he warned that the global moral infrastructure built after the Holocaust is currently at its weakest point in 80 years.
Deputies belonging to the SOS România party (the party has 14 in all) intended to bring into the chamber a Palestinian flag and protest banners but were prevented by guards.
