"The bad ones, they never die!” Pope Francis teased McCarrick when he saw him in 2014
This would be a harmless joke in normal circumstances. But if what Archbishop Vigano says is true, he had informed Pope Francis on June 23, 2013 about the serious allegations against the then Cardinal McCarrick and the sanctions imposed on him by Pope Benedict XVI. The Pope has not denied that the Archbishop informed him but challenged reporters to judge those accusations for themselves. They are supported by what priests have told Frederic Martel.
"Mr. McCarrick will continue to reside at the St. Fidelis Friary in Victoria until a decision of permanent residence is finalized,"
said Bishop Gerald L. Vincke, who heads the Diocese of Salina, Kansas, which is where the friary is located.
Even after after he's defrocked, Mr. McCarrick is still well looked after. Other priests accused of interfering with children pack their bags and go.
He appealed against his laicisation but has not said a word in public about the accusations of interfering with boys and nor has the Pope. Neither has asked for forgiveness.
