And here he struggles to put his pen in his inside breast pocket.
Churchill from 1953 and Brezhnev for years were senile, I know. Reagan in his later years was losing it but not like this - at any rate he was coherent in public.
Biden is absolutely terrible. Everything he has done in his first days as the 46th President of the United States has been disastrous, except maybe wanting to go back to Obama's Iran deal.
I favoured that when it was signed, partly because I don't see any threat to America or the West from Iran.
Since then things have changed. Iran remained as hostile as ever to America. Trump was much better than Obama at containing Iran and made a useful peace between Israel and the Sunnis.
But people are unfair who say Biden is already the worst US president of this century. George W Bush was much worse.
Going further back Lincoln was even worse than Bush the Younger. Lincoln waged an unnecessary and arguably unjust war in which 600,000 died.
President Obama, persuaded by Hillary, Cameron and Sarkozy, destroyed Libya - from an original idea by Bernard-Henri Lévy (BHL). Biden has not yet done anything remotely so bad, but it is very early days.

One day after Joe Biden was sworn in, 200 US troops and 40 trucks of ammunition and equipment entered Syria from Iraq.
The next few years threaten to be awful. Boris's views on quite a few things, including climate change, the Middle East and Covid, are not very different from Joe Biden's. The same is true of President Macron and Frau Merkel.
I shall try to follow politics much less closely.
At least Brexit happened.
The establishment could have picked a plausible candidate - but they deliberately picked Mr Biden in order to make a point. The point is simple "using Election Fraud we can make ANYONE President - and there is nothing you can do about it". The Davos boot has come down on the human face.
ReplyDeleteYou are being too gentle. He is also an imbecile. Thus, a semile imbecile. Or imbecilic senility.

ReplyDeleteI agree.
It no longer really matters which side wins elections because on all the crucial issues the entire political establishment is united. Whichever side wins you're still going to be stuck with catastrophically deluded and destructive policies on climate change, the Middle East, COVID, China, Russia, immigration, the LGBT stuff, education, etc.
The differences between major parties are now mostly cosmetic.
What we're seeing in the West is not a failure of particular governments. It's a failure of an entire political system. It's the entire political system and the entire bureaucracy and the media establishment and the academic establishment.
The problem is that most people still believe things can be fixed by getting rid of a particular government or a particular leader.
Boris is appalling but if the Tories dump him he'll be replaced by someone just as bad. May was just as bad as Cameron and Boris is just as bad as May. And if the Tories were to be voted out the current Labour leader is just as bad. Governments and leaders come and go but the disastrous policies don't really change.

Politics does seem increasingly futile.
The worst thing of all is the realisation that our elites are not just cynical, greedy and selfish. They're also stupid.
Robert, Lord Skidelsky said politicians are inhumanly stupid, but not all are. The clever ones include Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Boris Johnson and William Hague. Boris is a huge, huge improvement on Mrs May. Most people would be, though she was better than Jeremy Corbyn or the Liberal Democrats. Donald Trump showed that the American system actually is democratic in the Republican Party, which is why Democrats want to make it illegal for him to 'run' for office again. In the Democrats we saw how the Democratic National Committee helped Hillary defeat Bernie. They of course have superdelegates to prevent an insurgent populist being nominated as presidential candidate.
ReplyDeleteGee, who would the Democratic Party support...Someone who had given her entire political life and devoted her prodigious fundraising ability to the Democratic Party, or a cranky no-hoper who railed on about the evils of money and constantly criticized the Democratic Party?
ReplyDeleteBernie Sanders ran for the Democratic Party nomination twice and never even came close either time. Like ex-President Trump, he confused big rallies and Twitter hits with votes.
Obama and the Democrat grandees moved in synch to make sure Biden got the nomination, and because he was possibly the only candidate right-wing enough to win.
DeleteAs I said on my blog I imagined Bernie was certain to be nominated and defeated by the orange man.
