Scientific research confirms that humans have an innate, measurable tendency to veer and turn in an anticlockwise direction. Whether wandering alone or navigating crowds, the vast majority of people naturally drift to the left when walking freely.
A study from the University of Navarra (Spain) and Waseda University (Japan) discovered that up to 80% of pedestrians prefer turning counter-clockwise, even when trying to walk in a straight line. Nobody knows why but turn right when you enter a confined, crowded space in order to move faster.
