'A little loyal Jewish Ulster'

SHARE

In 1917, Sir Ronald Storrs, the first British military governor of Jerusalem, said a Jewish homeland in Palestine would give England, he wrote, a "little loyal Jewish Ulster in a sea of potentially hostile Arabism."

In 1922 750 of the fearsome and murderous Black and Tans were sent to Palestine from Ireland after the creation of the Irish Free State by Churchill, then Colonial Secretary, to keep order. This is the beginning of the story we see continuing to unfold now in the Gaza Strip.
