Senator J.D Vance, Donald Trump's running mate, at last week’s National Conservatism Conference.
“What is the first truly Islamist country to get a nuclear weapon? And we were like, maybe it’s Iran, maybe Pakistan already kind of counts. And then we finally decided maybe it’s actually the UK since Labour took over.”
Hee hee.
I wonder what British Foreign Secretary David Lammy will say. He called Donald Trump 'an absolute moron' and ‘a neo-Nazi-sympathising sociopath’ in 2018.
Senator Vance is sceptical of giving money to Ukraine but not about giving money to Israel, which is a contradiction, but support for Israel is necessary if he wants to get on in politics. At least he says he wants the war to end as soon as possible, to be followed by peace between Israel and the Saudis.
I'd say peace with Iran is more important but I also think the USA has no real interests in the region.
I had hoped Mr Trump would pick former soldier Tulsi Gabbard, who left the Democrats in October 2022, or Tucker Carlson but Senator Vance, a man brought up by a single mother in poverty who made much money, converted to Catholicism and wrote a well-received book, might be very good.
If elected he would be the third youngest US Vice-president, after Richard Nixon and a splendid man called John C. Breckinridge, Buchanan's Vice-president, who fought bravely in the Civil War or War between the States and ended up as Confederate Secretary of War.
The last American Vice-president who wore a beard was Charles Fairbanks, who served under Teddy Roosevelt.
Keep up. Cameron ceased to be Foreign Secretary on 5th July. The U.K. Foreign Secretary is actually Lammy. The strongest public reaction to Vance ‘s ignorant stupidity has come from the Conservatives, who don’t have to worry about being nice to Republicans since they lost power.
ReplyDeleteKeep up back to you, Anon. I said "I wonder what British Foreign Secretary David Lammy will say".
DeleteTrump is a lot brighter than he looks on the surface. He has spelt out his policy of playing dumb.
ReplyDeleteMost charismatic politicians are sociopaths. Boris Johnson is a good example. When Lammy says neo-Nazis, he will be thinking of Orban and Le Pen, both leaders of mainstream parties. In the same way that the “anti-fascists” are the nearest thing we now have to Mussolini’s Blackshirts, it may be that Labour is more of a neo-Nazi party than anyone Trump and Vance admire.
The National Socialists were a mainstream party in 1933. And I'm sure Hitler was charismatic and a sociopath. Your reasoning is badly flawed.
ReplyDeleteA Hitler analogy! How clever!
DeleteAnd apt.
