"I think Zelensky holds the same responsibility for this war as Putin,” Ms Mendel claimed. Challenged on this, she corrected herself: “Maybe 60/40, Zelensky 40 [per cent] and Putin 60 [per cent].”
She was Zelensky's first press secretary after he became president of Ukraine. What is most interesting about this interview is that it's appearing in the Telegraph at all. The Telegraph usually does not report views critical of Zelensky.
On the other hand the Telegraph's bias when it comes to Ukraine and Israel is quite extraordinary and the headline for the interview is
Zelensky’s ex-aide: I’m no Russian spy, I just want Ukraine to surrender
I'm not a philosopher and I have not studied the philosophy of causation but in Putin is entirely to blame for his illegal invasion. He was provoked however by the behaviour of Zelensky acting, I presume, on the prompting of the Americans, though before the war he was not his own man but answerable to the oligarch whose creature he was.
He was elected president on a programme advocating good relations with Russia and turned on a penny after reaching the presidency. He was used as an instrument by the Biden administration which desired to contain and eventually to rid the world of Putin.
Now Zelensky doesn't attempt to make peace on terms acceptable to Russia which is what the Telegraph means by surrender.
Ukrainian victory over Russia, or partial victory over Russia, is not possible which means a forever war unless he is removed from office.
The interview, placed in the very MI6-adjacent Telegraph, suggests that MI6 has lost belief in him too.
