Marco Rubio: Trump is ready to walk away from Ukraine-Russia peace deal efforts within days if progress isn't made because he has 'other priorities'

On March 11, Mr Rubio said that if Russia did not accept a ceasefire “then we’ll know unfortunately what is the impediment to peace here”.

Russia has not accepted a ceasefire, shows no signs of doing so soon and killed many Uktainian civilians going to church last Sunday, which was Palm Sunday.

Mr Rubio has not drawn a conclusion and Mr Trump says the Russian attack was 'a mistake', which possibly it was.

What rankles is that the partial ceasefire suggested by Mr Putin, preventing attacks on power stations, helped Russia and hindered Ukraine, yet Ukraine, doubtless at Mr Trump's request, accepted it.

Mr. Trump in his 1987 bestseller The Art of the Deal said: 'It never pays to be in too much of a hurry'. Yet he is in much too much of an obvious hurry is in his dealings with Russia. Russians approach negotiations very slowly.

And what will the USA do if it walks away from the negotiations? Stop financing the war? What incentive is that for Putin to negotiate?

Or continue to finance it without believing in it while increasing sanctions on Russia?

Can sanctions be increased? And the sanctions have done no good!

And why is Ukraine handing over minerals (in itself not a bad idea) if America is stopping financing?

The Art of the Deal was ghost written and the author stuck a very advantageous deal with Trump, it is said. Both he and the book's publisher say that Trump played no role in its writing.

Mr. Trump said yesterday that there were 'millions of people dead because of three people. Let's say Putin number one, but let's say Biden, who had no idea what the hell he was doing, number two, and Zelensky,'

This is perfectly true, though few people in England or Europe know it, but the US President has to take responsibility for the consequences of the things his predecessor did.

Invading Iraq was a tragic and criminal thing but it led to consequences like ISIS which could not be ignored.

"To achieve even a lasting ceasefire, the U.S. negotiating team will need to put forward some concrete and detailed terms for ending the war, and make an explicit threat as to the consequences for whichever side is seen by Washington as most at fault for a failure to agree.

"Russia will need to accept that it will not get any more territory beyond that already occupied, and that the rest of Ukraine will remain sovereign, independent, and sufficiently armed for a credible defense. Ukraine and the EU will need to agree to a formal promise that Ukraine will not to try to recover its lost territory by force, that it will not get NATO membership or a European 'reassurance force' and that certain categories of weapons will be limited."

"The threat to Russia must be that if they reject compromise, the U.S. will walk away from the talks, but U.S. aid to Ukraine will continue, greatly strengthening the likelihood that Ukraine will be able to go on making Russian military advances extremely slow, limited, and costly."
