8 or 9 false allegations against Donald Trump

SHARE
When I wrote about an article in Unherd that said 7 out of 10 claims by the media, in a list made by Donald Trump since leaving office, were false, I forgot to link to the article. I do so here.

Covid-19 may well have come from a Chinese lab. Hunter Biden’s laptop was real (obviously). Lafayette Square was not cleared for a photo op

The “Russian bounties” story, of which Joe Biden made much, was fake news, vaccines were produced in record time, schools should not have been closed. Did lockdowns work? I’d agree with the Donald that they didn’t and everyone will agree with us in time.

I say 9 out of the 10 were false - a recent study shows that hydroxychloroquine does impede Covid-19 and teaching critical race theory in schools is clearly a very bad idea. The 10th was whether he sealed the Southern border - he did not.

I imagine though that all my readers, however much they may dislike Mr Trump, recognise the remarkable number of falsehoods in the media about him since he stood (ran) for office.

  1. The right, as the left sometimes also does, made so many outlandish accusations it cast doubt on their credibility. Also in fairness some of the charges were so bizarre they were hard to believe. I myself found it hard to accept the Hunter Biden laptop story because it sounded so out-and-out weird, but these days nothing can be ruled out. Hunter Biden has been trouble for years — we just didn’t know how bad trouble.

    1. The way Twitter suppressed the story was very scary. And it was obviously true!

  5. You are like the Bellman who cried, "I have said it thrice: What I tell you three times is true."

We will never know where COVID-19 came from. Nobody in a position to know is ever going to tell the truth, because everybody in a position to know has a political axe to grind.

I don't think it's possible to know the truth about anything connected with COVID.

To be honest it's difficult to know the truth abut anything, because everything is now politicised and when a topic is politicised the truth becomes impossible to find.

Unfortunately spreading falsehoods is what politics is all about these days. On any given issue you can be confident that both sides are lying. Democracy appears to be irretrievably broken.

    1. History is a craft and historians despite their biasses very often do find out the truth - within parameters. Some areas are far too sensitive. I once told a very famous (Tory) historian that he should write A History of Anti-Racism. He replied: You are inviting me to throw away my career.
