Gideon Levy: 'There is no good Zionism and no bad Zionism. There is one Zionism, which established the Jewish state by forcibly expelling the Palestinians.'

'There is no good Zionism and no bad Zionism.
There is one Zionism, which established the Jewish state by forcibly expelling the Palestinians.
It did this in 1948 and in 1967, and it has been doing so to this day.'

The great Israeli journalist Gideon Levy, whom I think of as the conscience of Israel, wrote this in Ha'aretz January 18, 2020, in an opinion piece titled "Religious Zionism? The Secular Zionist Left Is the Mother of the Occupation." He makes the indisputable point to his secular liberal Israeli readers that today's Israeli religious settlers and religious right are continuing the Zionist project that was started by atheists, secular progressives and socialists.
