No British PMs were absolutely not up to the job till Mrs May - from 2016 onwards none of them have been.

Eden, Balfour, Rosebery, Major and Brown were bad but not useless like the recent ones.

The problem therefore is with the people who go into politics or the way PMs emerge or maybe the country is going through a period of sharp decline overall.
