Not just the left. Ursula v d Leyen said 'misinformation' is her first priority, before climate change or Ukraine. Netanyahu says US social and other media are the most important military front.
Poland's Foreign Minister and husband of Ann Applebaum Radosław Sikorski said at the Munich Security Conference that the U.S. should not impose its free speech values on Europeans: "In the U.S., it's almost absolute... whereas in Europe, for good historical reasons... we believe in freedom of speech with responsibility."
I'd have hoped someone who grew up under Communism would not say that but he is a liberal and therefore is frightened of the people just like Western European politicians except the populists.
Misinformation begins with in government.
ReplyDeleteSikorski is a lowlife!
ReplyDeleteMusk and Benz are loathsome individuals who have no interest in 'free speech'. They have an agenda they need to push.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you've heard of the ban on social media for under-15 in Australia, much celebrated by the media as a bold and courageous initiative. What the media does not mention is that the above-15 must now present a proof of their age. How? Via webcam/selfie + uploaded ID-photo. Good-bye online anonymity.
ReplyDeleteFrance needed endless debates and two months of horse-trading to pass a budget. The budget for 2026 was not yet voted towards the end of January but they still found time to squeeze the law banning social media for under-15s. I first heard allusions to it in the media on a Monday, saying that President Macron wants to push through Parliament such a law in a emergency procedure, and no later than Wednesday or Thursday the law was adopted, without any echo in the media. Fait accompli. It is not yet implemented, but I think it is a question of time. Spain and Germany intend to do it too.
This is very frightening indeed and scarcely noticed.
