The Ayatollah Khomeini’s former president and close friend, Bani Sad says in this clip that Khomeini issued a secret fatwa authorizing buying weapons from Israel. As a result, 80% of Khomeini’s weapons came from Israel.
Israel got on fine with Iran until it the early 1990s when it chose to pretend Iran was a threat. It did so to get American support to continue because the end of the Cold War meant the US no longer had a strategic interest in supporting Israel. The Israelis then believed their own propaganda.
